Meet Ganesh,

When we asked Ganesh why he wanted to run for NaariaSamata he quoted Brigham Young, “You educate a man, you educate a man. But you educate a woman, you educate a Generation”

As areas of NaariSamata’s charity work focuses on educating young girls, Ganesh knew he wanted to get behind the charity and raise vital funds for the cause.

It is the most polished phrase in corporate vocab It is the most polished phrase in corporate vocab — “Women Empowerment”. Perfect for slide decks, summit banners, HR newsletters and LinkedIn feeds.

But here’s the blunt question:

Has it actually changed systems…
or has it simply become a comfortable soundbite?

Having women on stage is not the same as having women in charge.

Real empowerment is not about inspirational speeches or branded campaigns.

It is about equal pay. Equal access to capital. Equal opportunity. Equal leadership pipelines.

It means women are not only invited to speak about leadership… but placed where leadership is exercised.

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2023 by the World Economic Forum, at the current pace it will take 131 years to close the global gender gap across economic participation and opportunity.

That means a girl born today would likely never see true economic parity in her lifetime.

Inside corporate offices, the performance of progress is everywhere:

• Panels titled Women in Leadership — props and applause for women discussing leadership
 • March-month campaigns — hashtags and visuals celebrating inclusion
 • HR newsletters on “confidence” — encouragement without structural change

Yet, when actual promotions and succession planning are tabled, the candidate “who feels like leadership” typically resembles leadership as it has always looked.

An intelligent woman isn’t merely underrated — she is often labeled “intense.”
A decisive woman becomes “difficult.”
A visionary woman is politely understood as “unconventional.”

The bias hasn’t vanished. It has just learned to sanitize itself.

So here’s the real question:

Are we actually invested in empowerment?
Or are we comfortable with the optics of empowerment?

Because until empowerment becomes reflected in boardrooms, capital flows and paychecks — it remains, at best, a well-designed buzzword.
